Full-scale Engineered Barriers Experiment (FEBEX) I - Layout & Test Design


The "in-situ" test is being performed in a drift which was excavated in the northern zone of the Grimsel Test Site.

The physical components of the test consist of five basic units:

  1. the drift,
  2. the heating system,
  3. the clay barrier,
  4. the instrumentation
  5. the monitoring and control system.

The GTS underground facilities are also available to interested 3rd parties for underground testing and research.
